PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV SPEAKS OVER PHONE WITH SERBIA’S PRESIDENT ALEKSANDAR VUČIĆ

02.01.2021

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov spoke over phone with Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vučić. The two leaders exchanged wishes on the New Year, 2021, and expressed confidence that as heretofore the excellent friendly and good neighborly relations would be vigorously promoted in all sectors of mutual interest. The Prime Minister and the President laid emphasis on infrastructure and energy cooperation that is seen as extremely important not just for Bulgaria and Serbia but also for the region and Europe.

Prime Minister Borissov and President Vučić discussed the progress of the Europe Motorway which is part of the main trans-European transport network. The London-Budapest-Belgrade-Sofia-Plovdiv-Istanbul-Calcutta motorway is the shortest route from Western Europe to the Near and the Middle East.

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister stressed that the first 17-kilometer section of the Europe Motorway between Dragoman and Slivnitsa was completed in November 2020 that is half a year before the date scheduled as per the contract. “Next New Year the motorway connecting Sofia and Belgrade will be completed,” Bulgaria’s Prime Minister avowed.

Energy partnership was another focus of the Borissov-Vučić discussion. “In the worst pandemic, COVID-19, energy projects in Bulgaria continue to be implemented and thus Serbia becomes a gas transit country. Also, we streamline our efforts to the construction of yet one interconnector to Sofia with Serbia to ensure the security of energy supply,” Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said.

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister and Serbia’s President stated that as soon as the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic permits they would meet personally.
