PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV SPEAKS OVER PHONE WITH GERMANY’S CHANCELLOR MERKEL

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov spoke over phone with the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Angela Merkel.

 

The two Heads of Government discussed the agenda points of the upcoming meeting via video conference of the European Union leaders tonight.

 

The Bulgarian Prime Minister expressed satisfaction with the report of the German Presidency of the Council of the EU on the progress of the coordinated EU approach in response to the pandemic. Mr. Borissov stressed that the European Union should remain united in the fight against the coronavirus effects.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov thanked Chancellor Merkel for the agreement that the German Presidency reached with the European Parliament on the next Multiannual Financial Framework and the Recovery Package. Prime Minister Borissov expressed his hope that the framework and the decision on own resources would be approved by the Council of the EU as soon as possible, so that the member states could use these instruments and funds timely and efficiently in the fight against the coronavirus and its impacts. Bulgaria’s Prime Minister was firm that this is the right time to show our citizens that we are able to unite and act together. Mr. Borissov noted that the proposed package combining the Multiannual Financial Framework and the Next Generation EU is balanced and acceptable to Bulgaria.
