PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV SIGNED THE MEMORANDUM ON THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE SOUTH EAST EUROPEAN INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGIES

In the framework of the Summit meeting in Poznan, a Memorandum of Cooperation on the establishment of the South East European International Institute for Sustainable Technologies was signed. Prime Minister Boyko Borissov signed the document from the Bulgarian side.

The Memorandum initiates a tree-year preparatory stage for the building of a unique for the region modern high-tech facility for tumor therapy and biomedical research with protons and heavy ions. During the preparatory stage, the design of the research facility will be produced and the necessary expertise will be prepared by scientists, medical and technical staff, in order to ensure the work of the future Institute.

The funds for the preparatory stage are from the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme for Research and Innovation of the European Union. Additional funding for training and equipment is from the European Organization for Nuclear Research, the International Atomic Energy Agency and the Dartmouth Centre for Heavy Ion Research, Germany.

By taking part in the initiative, organized under the slogan “science for peace,” Bulgaria, alongside the other states in the project, declares its willingness to strengthen the mutual cooperation in achieving sustainable socio-economic development and increasing the competitiveness of the region of Southeast Europe.
