PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV REGARDING CAPTAIN ANDREEVO: THIS EU ARTERY MUST CONTINUE TO WORK

30.03.2020

"This artery of the European Union must continue to work. It is the largest border checkpoint in Europe. I want to thank President Erdogan, Turkey's Ambassador to Bulgaria Aylin Sekizkök, and you for succeeding to let the trucks pass. "

With these words, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov addressed the vali of Edirne Ekrem Canalp during an inspection at the Captain Andreevo Border Checkpoint, where heavy trucks were no longer in line and traffic was normalized.

"Relations between Bulgaria and Turkey are valuable and friendly. The friendship between you and Mr. Erdogan, our president, reflects on all of our ties," said Edirne vali Ekrem Canalp to Prime Minister Borissov. Canalp also acknowledged the importance of Captain Andreevo and identified it as the world's second largest border crossing point. "Thanks to the cooperation between us, we are successfully handling this checkpoint, and because we are working on a 24-hour shift, we managed the heavy truck queues," said the Edirne vali.

During Prime Minister Borissov's inspection, it became clear that the buffer parking lot for the trucks of the former Uzundzhovo military airport was functioning well. Prime Minister Borissov noted that the state is actively working to ensure that the trucks pass quickly through Captain Andreevo, that the drivers do not have to wait and that they are able to do their jobs. Carrier representatives thanked the Prime Minister for the fact that that the problems were resolved once again following his inspection.

In response to media questions about the restrictive measures related to the coronavirus, Prime Minister Borissov noted that people are already very disciplined. The problem comes on Saturday and Sunday when the weather is nice. "I hope we do not have to tighten the measures. This is not a game you can play with the government, the authorities or the police on the street, so you can say - "I managed to outsmart them, I passed through without a declaration," said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. He added that the government is working hard to get people to make money and have salaries, get paid for what they produce. "All the connections that I have, I have guided them in this direction," Prime Minister Borissov was certain.
