PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV MET WITH US CONGRESSMEN

The good partnership in defence within the framework of NATO, as well as the benefits from common trainings in this field were among the topics, which Prime Minister Boyko Borissov discussed at his meeting with a delegation from the US Congress. At the Council of Ministers, the Prime Minister spoke with Jo Wilson, Madlen Bordalo, Pol Kuk, John Garamendi and Jacky Valorski, who are in Sofia as part of their visit to Eastern Europe. The congressmen underlined the importance of stability and security in the region, as well as cooperation on these topics.

 

The energy field was also among the discussed topics during the conversation. The focus was put on the development of the project for the European gas hub “Balkan”, as well as the probing for energy resources in the Black Sea.

 

The main macroeconomic indicators of Bulgaria were also discussed. Prime Minister Borissov noted that economic growth has accelerated to 3,9% for the first trimester of 2017 in comparison to the same period for the previous year. At the same time, according to Eurostat data, unemployment in the country has fallen below 6%. As a good sign, the Prime Minister also pointed out that increasingly young qualified Bulgarians come back to work in Bulgaria. Borissov also noted the work with European programs that assist the implementation of a number of projects of big social benefit.

 

The cultural topic was also touched upon in relation to the initiative “European capital of culture 2019” in Bulgaria.
