The development of the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and the Republic of Macedonia was in the focus of the talks between Prime Minister Boyko Borissov and the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Republic of Macedonia Radmila Sekerinska, who is on official visit to Sofia. The two noted the positive reactions internationally after the signing of the Agreement for friendship, cooperation, and good neighborly relations between the two countries in August.

“We must use the momentum in the political process for maintaining the dialogue so as to have more predictability and better results from the improved relations. An important role in this respect is to be played the regular meetings for attaining closed cooperation in tackling important bilateral and regional issues. Such will be the role of the upcoming joint meeting in Strumitsa,” highlighted Prime Minister Borissov.

Sekerinska pointed out that the signed Agreement for friendship is a platform upon which successful cooperation between the two countries in various sectors is to be built.

“Mutual support in the field of defence is of crucial importance for the security of the citizens of the two countries,” added the Prime Minister and welcomed the protocols signed today on cooperation in the field of the air forces and for ensuring laboratory research in the sector.

Borissov confirmed the Bulgarian position in favor of an open dialogue with clear support for the membership of the Republic of Macedonia in NATO and the EU.
