PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV MET WITH IMF MANAGING DIRECTOR KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Managing Director and Chairwoman of the Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Kristalina Georgieva. The main focus of their talks at the Council of Ministers was the cooperation of Bulgaria with the international organization and the opportunities for it to be developed due to the priorities of Kristalina Georgieva as a director of the IMF. Finance Minister Vladislav Goranov also took part in the meeting.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov put an emphasis on the prudent fiscal policy that Bulgaria pursues and which is accounted for by international credit agencies. The Prime Minister pointed out that the Bulgarian economy continues to develop steadily, without accumulating macroeconomic imbalances and that our country has made steady progress in joining ERM II. For her part, Kristalina Georgieva congratulated the government on the achievements in the field of fiscal policy and noted that they are a good incentive for the realization of the government's priorities, set by the Cabinet.

 

During the meeting the challenges facing global economic development were also discussed. Prime Minister Borissov and Kristalina Georgieva agreed on the understanding that securing a stronger and more sustainable growth should continue to be a guiding principle in global economic politics.

 

During the talks, Prime Minister Borissov emphasised that the election of Kristalina Georgieva to head the IMF last September is a great achievement for Bulgaria. The Prime Minister wished Georgieva success in her responsible position, expressing confidence that her professional success in the development of the IMF will have a positive impact on our country's international reputation.
