PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV MET THE FIRST PRESIDENT OF THE EUROPEAN COUNCIL HERMAN VAN ROMPUY

Education is a priority and a categorical commitment for the government, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the meeting with the first President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy. The Prime Minister pointed out that he is glad the two have the opportunity to meet each other at the Council of Ministers on one of the most Bulgarian holidays, which undoubtedly is the Day of Bulgarian language and culture and the Slavic alphabet – the 24th of May.

 

Borissov received Herman Van Rompuy’s cordial congratulations on his third term in office, afterwards acquainting his guest with the main priorities the government will work on in the next four years. He drew special attention to the financial discipline of the country and the strife for economic development.

 

The situation on the Balkans was discussed during the meeting. Another topic of the conversation was the forthcoming Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2018. Herman Van Rompuy noted that Bulgaria has achieved very good results. He underlined that he would help our country for the Presidency with pleasure.
