PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV IS ON HIS WAY FOR THE MEETING WITH THE TURKISH PRESIDENT RECEP TAYYIP ERDOĞAN IN ANKARA

02.03.2020

"I'm going to a friendly dinner - with my colleague and friend. To ensure our good relations in the future." This what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told the media before leaving for his meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara.

Prime Minister Borissov added that immediate measures should be taken to deal with migration pressure in the region. "It's a big mistake to put an army against these people. The solution is an exported security center outside of the EU, for which we, the entire European Union, to pay, so they can have these little children immediately fed, warm and dry. This is humanity, ”said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov.

The Prime Minister recalled that in order to deal with the migrant situation with migran, he has had telephone conversations in the last few days with European leaders - with French President Emmanuel Macron, Chancellor Angela Merkel, Chancellor Sebastian Kurtz, European Council President Charles Michel, with President of the European Council von der Leyen, with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, whose country currently heads the Council of the EU, with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, with Turkish President Erdoğan, etc.

"Immediate cessation of hostilities, diplomacy, peace, understanding - this is what I appeal for to all my colleagues," Prime Minister Borissov told reporters at the airport.

The Prime Minister noted that we have zero illegal migration at the moment, but the conflict is close to us. "Conflicts like this are a very big bomb for the future. They affect growth, business, economy, tourism, and when we have the current flu plus the coronavirus, things can get very dramatic," Prime Minister Boyko Borissov added.

The Prime Minister told reporters that Bulgaria has been pursuing a balanced policy with Greece and Turkey for years. "We have a lot of infrastructure projects with both countries - gas, road ties, railways, tourism. But at one point there is a conflict between our neighbors," Prime Minister Borissov said. Therefore, in Ankara, the Bulgarian Prime Minister will look for opportunities for successful decisions to stabilize the region.
