PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: IRELAND IS OUR PROSELYTE FOR A STABLE AND STRONG EUROPE

“Ireland is our friend and proselyte. We are in favor of a most stable, unified, comprehensive and strong Europe,” said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov after a meeting with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadcar, who is on a working visit to Bulgaria. The Bulgarian Prime Minister expressed conviction that the difficulties experienced by Europe currently can be overcome by the willingness and readiness of all countries.

 

Boyko Borissov presented his Irish counterpart with the priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council. “We have confidence in your leadership. We expect you to influence the agenda of Europe,” the Irish Prime Minister said.

 

The topic of European integration of the Western Balkan countries was also discussed, whereby the Bulgarian Prime Minister put the focus on infrastructure projects, cohesion policy, EU accession, and competitiveness in the region. The two Prime Ministers agreed that it is important to ensure prosperity, security and democracy in the Western Balkans. “We want to grant them opportunities and assist them in the application process so as to to ensure their prosperity and security,” said Leo Varadcar.
