11.05.2017

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov informed the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker about the government’s decision to nominate Mariya Gabriel for member of the EC from Bulgaria.

In the letter to Juncker, Borissov reminds that the issue was discussed between the two in a phone call on Friday. “I am delighted to inform you that today - at its first session, the Bulgarian government took the decision to nominate Ms Mariya Gabriel for this post. With her professional skills and longstanding experience at the European Parliament, I am convinced that Ms Mariya Gabriel will have a significant and valuable contribution to the work of the Commission,” points out the Prime Minister.

He expresses his expectation to discuss the nomination as soon as possible with the President of the EC and to receive his approval, as the EU Treaty foresees.
