PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV IN MUNICH: WE HAVE A RARE OPPURTUNITY - ALL OF EUROPE WANTS TO GIVE THE WESTERN BALKANS A PERSPECTIVE

15.02.2020

We have a rare opportunity - the whole of Europe wants to give perspective to the Republic of North Macedonia and Albania and the Western Balkans in general. But there is a growing feeling that colleagues there do not understand the importance of this moment and that any domestic political event does not matter as much for these countries if they miss this moment. I say this with sadness and of course with a dose of optimism that they have understood me. This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told journalists in Munich, where he participated in a security forum and took part in a number of bilateral meetings.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov pointed out that Bulgaria stands firm in the region and is a sought-after country for investments. "Fortunately, quite a lot of Bulgarian companies are involved in this, but many other opportunities are opening up," the Prime Minister said. Borissov added that the East-West axis continues to develop, as well as the North-South axis, paying special attention to the gas pipelines, highways and railway lines under construction. "This must be the future for us to work towards," the Bulgarian Prime Minister was certain. According to Borissov, it is time to get out of the wishing side and the pompous meetings. "Bulgaria is ready to invest immediately in a third Danube bridge," Prime Minister Borissov said. The Prime Minister also announced that, in conjunction with the Minister President of Bavaria, Markus Söder, the organization of a big business forum in May is in progress.

Asked by the media about US visas, Prime Minister Borissov noted: "President Trump has made a commitment. Let's see how the elections in the United States will unfold. If he is re-elected, the visa waiver process will surely be complete. This is a man's word. It is no coincidence that he is currently sending people of the highest positions in this field. " Prime Minister Borissov emphasised that for the second year with we have no such problem with Canada.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov attended the award ceremony of the chairman and founder of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger, with the Golden Laurel Branch honorary badge, for his significant contribution to the development of the Bulgarian-German cooperation.
