PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV IN MUNICH: THE TOPIC REGARDING THE ABSENCE OF THE WEST IN THE WORLD HOT SPOTS IS DISCUSSED MORE AND MORE OFTEN

14.02.2020

The world is developing in a very dynamic way, Bulgaria is in the focus, our country is respected and sought after by all others. We are asked about our opinion by the presidents and prime ministers, who, as you see, are themselves requesting meetings. We need to concentrate. This is what Prime Minister Boyko Borissov told media outlets in Munich, where a security conference is being held.

The Prime Minister pointed out that our country was given as an example for tackling illegal migration, which is the first and major problem in Europe. "We shared our capabilities in this area. Increasing the defense capabilities of the country, the new aircraft Bulgaria has purchased, the reorganization and preparation of the army, the international trainings being conducted in our country, in the Black Sea, there was also an interest in relation to our actions regarding some Russian diplomats. I reaffirmed my position that I am against the Black Sea flotilla, and that peace and understanding, energy projects, on one hand, make the countries dependent, but we are building the interconnector with Greece, which gives us absolute diversification. At the same time, the Balkan Stream also offers opportunities to work with Russia, Turkey, and other countries in the region. These things should be very clearly separated. Mutually beneficial businesses and interests for countries must be maintained, rules and European values respected, and no espionage should take place,” the Bulgarian Prime Minister said.

According to Prime Minister Borissov, the topic regarding the absence of the West in the world hot spots - Syria, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, which are all close to Bulgaria, is discussed more and more often today. The Prime Minister pointed out that this does not mean the presence of the West with military force. “On the contrary - the strength of our common market, we have the greatest economic power, and we are all interesting to trade with. With the economic opportunities that the West has, it can achieve lasting peace. Naming the problems with real names - I think this can bring success," Borissov added.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov emphasised that he would also address the topic of the Green Deal of Europe during the conference. According to Borissov, entering the Green Deal as part of the EU as a whole, Bulgaria will become part of a very tough competition for those who will not be in the Deal and will continue to use coal. "With the Green Deal and with the permission of the nuclear energy, Bulgaria as a nuclear power and having nuclear reactors, which has purchased nuclear reactors for 3 billions, has to build a power plant. Otherwise, in 10 years there will be no one to cover the energy needs of the country, we will have to import electricity," the Prime Minister said. Borissov noted that a second group of US experts is to visit our country. "I clearly explained the whole energy mix - what we lose, what we win, what we did, how we have protected when we should have. I act with great confidence because I am right, "Prime Minister Boyko Borissov was certain.
