PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: FOR US ARMENIA IS A TRADITIONAL ECONOMIC PARTNER WITH WHICH WE WANT TO DEVELOP COMPREHENSIVE AND LONG-TERM COOPERATION

"Bulgaria and Armenia are developing an active political dialogue at the highest level in the spirit of friendship and goodwill that characterizes our relations. And they are built on longstanding historical and cultural ties." Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said during his meeting with the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The two talked in the framework of the Munich Security Conference.

 

During the meeting, Prime Minister Borissov voiced our country's support for the undergoing reforms of Prime Minister Pashinyan's government. "Their further progress and the preservation of political stability in Armenia will contribute to the prosperity of the Caucasus region, that is important for Europe," the Bulgarian Prime Minister noted. He emphasized that Armenia is a traditional economic partner of our country, with which we want to develop comprehensive, long-term, and mutually beneficial cooperation.

 

"Our economic ties are currently developing, and bilateral trade has huge potential that needs to be used," Prime Minister Borissov said. For the period January-June 2019, the trade between Bulgaria and Armenia amounts to USD 19.576 million, of which $ 18.343 million USD is the Bulgarian export to Armenia. Our exports for the period increased by 53% compared to the same period of 2018. Imports from Armenia grew by 470% to USD 1.233 million.

 

During the talks, bilateral cooperation in the field of culture, science and education, based on bilateral documents, was also discussed. An academic exchange of students is also carried out on this basis. Another highlight of the meeting was the tourism ties between Bulgaria and Armenia, whose development is facilitated by the geographical proximity between the two countries, similar life, religion and culture.
