01.09.2017

Rapid and quality exchange of information is of key importance in the field of internal affairs and security, noted Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during his meeting with the Minister of Interior of Hungary Sandor Pinter. The two discussed the development of the information systems and the inter-connectivity of data bases in relation to the implementation of the agreement for trans-border penalties for road traffic offences, which was initiated by Hungary and whereby our country participates, also in the context of prevention, detection, and investigation of offences.

Prime Minister Borissov noted that within the framework of the upcoming Presidency of the Council of the EU, our country also has the ambition to work for an increase in the volume of exchanged information. This can be achieved by encouraging the utilization of all opportunities for improvement in the interactions among the law enforcement agencies and the intelligence services, as well as the exchange of information with European agencies. The Prime Minister added that the increase in EU citizens’ security and migration management will be two major directions in the field of internal affairs during the Bulgarian Presidency.

Border security and counteracting terrorism were other highlights in the talks between Borissov and the Hungarian Minister of Interior. The Prime Minister underlined that during the current year the migration situation in our country has been stable and the tendency of decrease in the migration pressure has persisted. According to him, one of the reasons for these results are the systemic efforts of the Bulgarian authorities for guarding and controlling the borders. Borissov added that Bulgaria actively cooperates with other EU member states and international partners in counteracting international terrorism.

Sandor Pinter is on a visit to our country on invitation by the Minister of Interior Valentin Radev.
