PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV DISCUSSED THE COOPERATION WITH THE EBRD WITH THE VICE PRESIDENT OF THE BANK PIERRE HEILBRONN

The good cooperation between Bulgaria and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as the potential for future cooperation were discussed at a meeting of Prime Minister Boyko Borissov with the Vice President of the EBRD Pierre Heilbronn.

Heilbronn noted the growth of the Bulgarian economy, of investments and consumption, which are reported in the most recent analysis of the Bank. According to Prime Minister Borissov, in respect to macroeconomic indicators our country is predictable, because it relies on fiscal discipline and consolidation of spending. He pointed out that the main investments are in sectors that generate growth, such as education and infrastructure. The government policy is aimed at improving the business environment through reform of the administrative services, maintaining low taxes and fighting tax fraud and smuggling, said Borissov.

In addition to the bilateral cooperation, the Bulgarian Prime Minister put an emphasis on the integration of the Western Balkans, especially in the field of infrastructure projects, gas, transport and digital connectivity. Boyko Borissov accepted the invitation of the EBRD President Sir Suma Chakrabarti to participate at the opening of the EBRD meeting on investments in the Western Balkans in February 2018 in London.

The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tomislav Dontchev, as well as by Charlotte Ruhe, Managing Director of the EBRD for Central and South East Europe and Larisa Manastirli, Director for Bulgaria of the Bank.
