PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV CALLED FOR A DEBATE ON LEGAL AMENDMENTS TO STOP THE ENDLESS APPEALS AGAINST PUBLIC PROCUREMENT CONTRACTS

17.08.2017

Prime Minster Boyko Borissov called for a debate on amendments to the Law on Public Procurement Contracts, which could stop the endless appeals against such contracts. The Prime Minister did so during an inspection, together with the Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Nikolay Nankov, of the motorway renovation works on the segment Plovdiv-Asenovgrad, which started a week ago. The road segment is infamous as the “road to death”.

Borissov reminded that the appeal procedures took two years, which delayed the construction. “ I am not fine with the fact that for two years people were losing their lives on this road segment because of the reckless appeals against public procurement contracts. This road would have been completed by now. Because of companies that are specializing in appealing against public procurement contracts for two years already we have not been able to start the detours around Pomorie and Aheloy. The toll system – two years... Now we want to purchase new trains, new locomotives, but the appeals here will run for another two years most probably! On the Kresna route people are still losing their lives,” commented the Prime Minister and called for a public debate on the issue.

The Prime Minister expressed his expectation that the people in the region will receive a nice and safe road, after having waited for it for 30 years. According to the implementing company, the widening of the road will be completed in September 2018.
