PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV: BY SIGNING THE AGREEMENT FOR GOOD NEIGHBORLY RELATIONS WE WILL OPEN A NEW PAGE IN OUR RELATIONS WITH THE REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA

26.07.2017

The signing of the Agreement for Friendship, Good Neighborly Relations and Cooperation with the Republic of Macedonia is an expression of Bulgaria’s desire to build modern good neighborly relations, based on European values. This was said by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during today’s government session. He noted that over the years several Bulgarian governments from the entire political spectrum have been involved in the negotiations, thereby withstanding the Bulgarian national interest.

According to Borissov, the visit of the Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev in Sofia and the expressed position on our common history is a first step in the strife for establishing a new spirit in the relations with their neighbors. “The European Union appreciates the agreement as a first step and a new beginning for the development of the European perspective of the Republic of Macedonia,” added the Prime Minister.

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov also noted that with the signing of the agreement a new page in the relations between the two countries will be opened and a cordial friendship will be established.

During the government meeting, Minister Ivaylo Moskovski presented another document, which will provide the opportunity for taking concrete actions for completing the construction of the railway connection between Bulgaria and Macedonia.
