The decision to build infrastructure and bridges or hydropower facilities will be taken after the meetings of the respective ministers from Bulgaria and Romania. This was announced by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at a briefing after the talks with his Romanian counterpart Mihai Tudose at the “Evksinograd” residence, where a joint session of the two governments was held. Prime Minister Borissov added that for the different projects investors will be sought, jointly with the Romanian side, thereby highlighting that the toll system and the concessions will provide an opportunity to have returns on investments subsequently.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister welcomed the idea of his Romanian counterpart about the two countries entering the Arab and Chinese markets together so that they would be able to respond better to the requirements for quantity and capacity. Creating trade houses and supporting them as states, together with the private business in agriculture, we can partner each other to cover this unlimited market, pointed out Borissov.
The Prime Minister put a stress also on the topic of the Balkans. According to him, the fact that Romania is also part of the next Troika for the Presidency of the Council of the EU provides the opportunity for the Danube and the Black Sea strategies to acquire real parameters. Borissov was categorical that Bulgaria and Romania will work not only to the benefit of their two peoples but to the benefit of all in the region, giving the example of Corridor 8.
Concerning Schengen, Borissov said that Bulgaria and Romania will continue to work on the issue with consistency and diplomacy and without emotions. We have received the appreciation of the European Commission and the European Parliament, there is nothing that could cause our concerns from a reputational perspective, said the Prime Minister. He added energy was also among the topics of today’s talks and emphasized that it is not a coincidence that the first interconnector was build namely with Romania.
We spoke about infrastructure but not as a goal in itself. The two states will be more competitive in Europe and we will offer better living standards to our citizens, said in turn the Romanian Prime Minister Mihai Tudose. He announced that the two countries provide the EU with one of its safest borders and their cooperation in respect to security can serve as a role model. According to him, Bulgaria and Romania are islands of stability and safety in the region.
The joint session of the Bulgarian and Romanian governments concluded with the signing of bilateral agreements in the fields of transport, energy, labor and social policy, internal affairs and the economy.
