What we are doing in respect to e-government, the legal amendments, the elimination of the administrative burden, digitalization – all these measures will bear results as early as next year. This was commented by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov in front of journalists in Tallinn, where he attended a Summit on digital technologies. According to him, Estonia that organized today’s forum is a good role-model in this field.
Asked about a common European defence, Borissov noted that this would be a positive step for Bulgaria. “A few months ago when we started talking about a common European defence, it was like an heresy, and now the French President is talking about common European forces. Gradually, in Europe we come to the realization that no one can take better care of us than ourselves and that if we do not defend ourselves and do not mobilize ourselves to do it as common European forces, we will be an easy prey,” said the Prime Minister. He paid attention to the defence industry in the EU, where high technologies and opportunities can be combined, which Bulgaria also possesses – in ship-building, in land machinery, and in their renovation.
“The gas hub becomes very important for Europe,” added Prime Minister Borissov. According to him, Bulgaria should take over the responsibility for the trade in natural gas coming from the South through the European gas hub “Balkan”. According to Borissov, Europe needs more flexibility in decision-making when it comes to financial, economic, energy and other decisions.
In respect to Schengen and the Eurozone, the Bulgarian Prime Minister pointed out that our country has fulfilled all criteria, those issues should be discussed among all and consensus should be reached. “According to the criteria, Bulgaria is the most reliable external border of Schengen, our financial and economic indicators serve as a role-models and so does the fight against smuggling and corruption,” said Borissov. He underlined the economic growth rate, the stable financial reserve, the zero inflation, and the low unemployment. “We must continue to do our job in Bulgaria,” the Prime Minister was categorical.
Prime Minister Borissov expressed the expectation that all his colleagues will accept the invitation to attend the summit in Sofia on the topic of the Western Balkans, which will take place within the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU next year.
