PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV AND SEBASTIAN KURZ HELD A PHONE CONVERSATION

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov held a phone conversation with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria and President of the Austrian People’s Party, which won the recent parliamentary elections, Sebastian Kurz. Borissov and Kurz, who is commissioned to form a government and is expected to become Chancellor within a few weeks, discussed the possibilities for an even stronger partnership and cooperation between Bulgaria and Austria, as well as the challenges within the European Union.

Within the context of the Presidency of the Council of the EU, which will be taken up by Austria after Bulgaria, the two discussed topics, related to the future processes and reforms in the Union. “The fact that the presidencies of the two countries come one after the other provide a big opportunity to achieve better results,” highlighted Sebastian Kurz. Prime Minister Borissov took the opportunity to inform him about the upcoming summit on the Western Balkans in Sofia, which will take place in May within the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency. The two leaders explained that they will unite forces in respect to the Western Balkans and expressed the conviction that together within one year Bulgaria and Austria will contribute to achieving a big step ahead in the development of the region, including better connectivity and sustainable results on the European path of the Western Balkan countries.

Kurz invited Borissov to be his first official guest in Vienna on January 1. The Bulgarian Prime Minister underlined that he expects to see Kurz as a colleague within the European Council.
