29.09.2017

The Prime Ministers of Bulgaria and Italy Boyko Borissov and Paolo Gentiloni agreed on a more visible political dialogue between the two states and mutual support on issues of current European affairs. The two talked in Tallinn prior to the beginning of the Summit on digital technologies, organized by the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU. They discussed the opportunities for cooperation in the context of challenges that Europe faces.

The Italian Prime Minister expressed high appreciation for the work of our country in protection of the external EU border: “Bulgaria protects very well the external border of the European Union,” highlighted Gentiloni. He noted that the two states should be very careful on the migration issue and follow these processes in detail.

Prime Minister Borissov invited his Italian colleague to attend the Summit on the Western Balkans in May in Sofia within the framework of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council. The Prime Minister also expressed his gratitude for the invitation to the Berlin Process Summit in Trieste, which was held in July, whereas the Italian Prime Minister reminded that namely at this meeting he called for the discussion on the topic of the Western Balkans to be held in Bulgaria.

Gentiloni invited Borissov on an official visit to Italy at a time of his convenience.
