Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel discusses Bulgaria’s agenda with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel met with the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels where the Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister is on a working visit.

Ursula von der Leyen congratulated Mariya Gabriel on the assumption of office as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the elected government and wished her success in the performance of her new duties. The Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister informed Ursula von der Leyen about the cabinet’s priorities.

They discussed Bulgaria’s accession to Schengen, which continues to be of key importance for the country. Mariya Gabriel thanked Ursula von der Leyen for the European Commission’s support on this important matter.

The meeting focused, inter alia, on the challenges facing Bulgaria, related to the progress of the implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Mariya Gabriel confirmed to the Commission President the government’s commitment to continue its energetic work on all tasks related to the accession to the Eurozone.

At the close of the meeting, Mariya Gabriel and Ursula von der Leyen agreed on the European Union’s solidarity and unity with regard to the support for Ukraine.
