The Deputy Prime Minister of Economic and Demographic Policies Valeri Simeonov received today on their request Samuil Arditi – a Bulgarian Jew, who lived through the events of 1943 and who resides in Israel and Arch. Elko Hazan – Co-Chairman of the Club of Bulgarian and Jewish Friends.
Mr. Arditi and Mr. Hazan stated their position that very few Bulgarians have received international recognition for their role in saving the Bulgarian Jews. They requested Deputy Prime Minister Simeonov’s support for the promotion of their actions in 1943 and the commencement of a procedure for post-mortem awarding with National Awards of Lilyana Patitsa and other Bulgarian citizens, who helped in saving tens of thousands of our compatriots from Jewish descent.
We rely on you, you have our support in respect to the doubtful accusations that are directed towards you, said Samuil Arditi and Elko Hazan. They thanked Deputy Prime Minister Simeonov for his solidarity with the fate of the Bulgarian Jews and for what he has done to raise awareness about the events of 1943.
