03.11.2017

The deep cultural ties and the dynamic economic relations were among the central topics in the address by the Deputy Prime Minister Valeri Simeonov at the opening of the First Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for Economic Cooperation between Bulgaria and Hungary. The plenary session and the Bulgarian-Hungarian Business Forum were opened by the Deputy Prime Minister Simeonov and the Minister of Economy Emil Karanikolov. The Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Siarto presented the priorities and vision of Hungary for development of the bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister Valeri Simeonov highlighted the traditionally friendly relations between Bulgaria and Hungary, as well as the fields of cooperation and the prospects for their strengthening. Simeonov thanked the Hungarian state for the positive treatment of the Bulgarian minority in Hungary and the state support for the preservation of their language, national identity, and historical memory as a Bulgarian community. The announcement by the parliaments of the two countries of 19 October, the day of the Bulgarian saint Ivan Rilski, for a Day of Bulgarian-Hungarian Friendship is an emblematic expression of the warm feelings between the two people.

In his address, Valeri Simeonov described in detail the strong economic partnership between Bulgaria and Hungary, focusing on bilateral trade, the pace of increase in the touristic volume, and the considerable foreign investments, which have been realized in Bulgaria by the Hungarian business.

The Bulgarian and Hungarian representatives agreed that the Intergovernmental Committee on Economic Cooperation will contribute to deepening the trade, economic, and investment relations.
