World leaders, business experts and entrepreneurs discussed today in the Boyana Residence the latest challenges facing the global and regional economy within the framework of the Vienna Economic Forum (VEF). The event is organized twice a year and this year Bulgaria hosts the away meeting. The purpose of the VEF is to promote regional cooperation.
In his welcome address to the participants, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev noted that the initiative is a bridge between economics and politics and that Bulgaria is a proof of stability and security in the region. “We will continue to work actively with our neighbors to develop transport, energy and digital connections,” he wrote.
In the Prime Minister’s view, the Forum provides support for countries that aspire accession to the European Union and to the Euro-Atlantic community and in addition, is a place to identify new markets and investment in joint projects and to achieve common goals at government and business level. The Prime Minister emphasized that Bulgaria’s full accession to the Schengen area will make a significant contribution and will have a positive effect on the provision of services, the supply of goods and cross-border mobility of workers not just for Bulgaria and also for a number of other countries. Dimitar Glavchev identified Bulgaria’s full OECD membership as the country’s other key priority to promote economic development and to strengthen regional stability.
In his statement the Minister of Economy and Industry Petko Nikolov noted that Eastern Europe affords a number of opportunities for economic growth and that Bulgaria will be in the core of the region’s future development.
