BULGARIA AND SERBIA SIGNED BILATERAL DOCUMENTS ON COOPERATION IN TRANSPORT AND LABOR AND SOCIAL POLICY

23.02.2018

Bulgaria and Serbia signed three memoranda that regulate cooperation in the fields of transport and labor and social policy. The ceremony was held in the presence of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, who is on an official visit to our country. Previously, he spoke with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.

At the meeting, the two discussed the main foreign policy priority of the Bulgarian EU Council Presidency - the European perspective for the Western Balkans, Serbia's progress in the accession negotiations, as well as the bilateral relations.

Deputy Prime Minister Zaharieva noted that the good political dialogue between Bulgaria and Serbia has a positive impact on the economic relations of the countries. “For the last year, we have a an increase in trade volume by 40 per cent and by 14 per cent in the number of tourists,” she said, expressing the expectation that the transport agreements signed today would speed up the process of completing the Trans-European Corridor 10 and achieving independence of gas supplies.

Zaharieva briefed the Serbian President on the support that the Western Balkans Strategy had received from EU foreign ministers during their informal meeting in Sofia last week. Vucic thanked Bulgaria for its support for the accession of Serbia and wished the Bulgarian government success for the EU Council Presidency.
