The government will help Varna in solving the infrastructure problems that currently do not allow the city to develop, said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at a working meeting at the Municipality, organized by the Mayor Portnih. The meeting was attended by cabinet representatives and the President of the Confederation of Independent Employers in Bulgaria Plamen Dimitrov.
Varna deserves a perspective. There are other activities in the city, apart from tourism, pointed out Borissov.
He reminded of the words of the Mayor that for 30 years nothing has been done to alleviate the traffic in Varna, and announced that the government suggests two measures in this respect – broadening the main boulevard with two additional lanes and two local lanes – the boulevard connects the city center with the airport, as well as building a new road that will relieve the traffic to the harbor. The funding will come from the budget and the European Investment Bank. Whether the implementation will be organized by the Road Infrastructure Agency or the Municipality is to be decided by the Municipal Council in Varna, pointed out Borissov.
He said that priorities for the government are also the renovation of the Mathematics High School and the building of a third filtering station for waste water.
Borissov highlighted that there are many other projects, which need funding while at the same time money are being wasted on the repercussions of unreasonable decisions of previous governments. He gave the examples of the “Natura 2000” zones, the payments for the “Belene” Nuclear Power Plant and the American power stations, as well as the privatization contract for “Polimeri” – Devnya, which he classified as a robbery.
“For 4-5 years an investigation against unknown perpetrators is underway but in my opinion those are well known. Even the rails have been taken. A few months ago we took the decision to provide 15 million BGN to Varna. This waste should be taken and moved somewhere else. We pay unreasonable amounts for the wrong things,” said the Prime Minister. According to him, the new anti-corruption agency should start from here with its investigations and move on to the situation with the NPC, “so we can see what privatization deals have been done, let us start from what brings damages.”
