Prime Minister Boyko Borissov participated in the 22-nd World Petroleum Congress in Istanbul. In front of more than 5000 delegates from all over the world, he presented Bulgaria’s advantages for achieving diversification of the energy supplies to South East Europe.
Borissov defined the building of the European gas hub “Balkan” as a leading aspect of the future of the energy field in the region. He highlighted that one of the biggest petroleum companies has become part of the probing into the possibilities for extraction of gas in the Bulgarian economic zone in the Black Sea and pointed out that, according to the project for the hub, supplies can be assigned to Bulgaria, Romania, Russia, and Azerbaijan.
“Bulgaria is a factor on the Balkans with the possibilities of its gas transport system. Currently 16,7 billion cubic meters transit gas go through our country, whereas thanks to the investments made close to 80% of the compensatory stations in the Balkan region are located in Bulgaria,” added the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister noted the purposeful efforts of our country to build the interconnectors with Turkey, Greece, and Serbia, explaining that the one with Romania is already in use. He mentioned the activities for the capacity expansion of the gas storage facilities.
The Prime Minister called for swift and active work on the building of the next gas transport corridors. “The South gas corridor, which passes through Bulgaria and Serbia is on the agenda and we have a very serious attitude towards its realization,” announced Borissov at the World Petroleum Congress.
