BOYKO BORISSOV: A NEW BRIDGE OVER THE DANUBE RIVER WILL ABSORB DOUBLE THE TRAFFIC VOLUME AS A RESULT OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE BEING BUILT IN NORTHERN BULGARIA

27.09.2017

A second bridge over the Danube River near Ruse will provide both Bulgaria and Romania with the opportunity to ensure the absorption of a much bigger traffic volume that will be generated by the road infrastructure in Northern Bulgaria. This was pointed out by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during the discussion on the draft of the intergovernmental memorandum for probing the construction of a new bridge facility over the Danube River.

“We are all witnesses: a week goes by and we have kilometers of queueing vehicles at Ruse. With the construction, because I presume that nobody doubts any longer that when we say something it happens… in a few years Northern Bulgaria will look like Southern Bulgaria,” said the Prime Minister and gave the examples of the project for the “Hemus” highway, the high-speed road Ruse – Veliko Tarnovo, the Shipka tunnel, and the road Botevgrad – Mezdra. “This means much more investment and these are not empty words, because you see: a production plant after production plant are being build there,” commented Borissov.

The facility will connect Bucharest to Sofia, Thessaloniki, and Belgrade, and will allow the absorption of the traffic from Asia to Europe not only in a horizontal but also in a vertical line, highlighted the Prime Minister and added: “We have not given up on the construction of all other bridges, as well but for now those are only at the stage of good wishes.”
