BORISSOV: THE EU-TURKEY SUMMIT PROVIDES AN OPPORTUNITY FOR A DIALOGUE RESUMPTION

22.03.2018

Preparations for the EU-Turkey Summit in Varna are underway in full swing, many expect a lot of us, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said prior to the start of the European Council in Brussels. He stressed that this is one of the last opportunities for the Union and Turkey to remain in dialogue. “Everyone has hopes that thorugh dialogue we can reach agreement. I have set a single goal for myself - the continuation of the agreement on migrants,” Borissov said, underlining that the EU-Turkey payments under the agreement should be carried out. In the context of the need to continue to uphold the agreement, the Prime Minister recalled the cases in Harmanli and the metropolitan area "Ovcha Kupel", saying that this could resume and he would not accept such an alternative.

Borissov commented on the exacerbated relations between London and Moscow. “I have been dealing with criminal offenses for many years, and usually these are not what they seem,” the Prime Minister said. He highlighted that the perpetrators and those who commissioned them should be captured because otherwise the danger remains for everyone. “This substance can be put into the subway, in ventilation installations, sports halls - it can kill thousands. I will appeal to my colleagues to put every effort possible into the solution of this crime so the guilty bear the consequences with all the rigor of international law,” the Prime Minister explained.

He expressed an expectation for a positive development of the US-EU trade relations.
