BORISSOV IN DAVOS: THERE IS ONE INJUSTICE THAT EUROPE MUST PUT RIGHT – THE WESTERN BALKANS

25.01.2018

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov placed a focus on the Western Balkans and the need for the international community to support the development of the countries from the region during his participation in a discussion at the Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

The Prime Minister reminded of the wars, catastrophes and vicissitudes that Europe has gone through, but pointed out that the consequences of the 1990s’ conflict in the western part of the Balkans have not yet been overcome. “There is an injustice that Europe must set right - the Western Balkans. These countries are doing everything within their aptitude to meet the demands towards them, and we, the EU countries, as neighbors, as partners, must also do our utmost to attain progress in their integration process,” said the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

He reiterated his argument that now - while the countries in the region are preparing for their membership in NATO and the EU - is the best time to support the development of infrastructure - transport, communications, energy, environmental - which will be most useful for the countries themselves and for the rest of Europe.

At the forum, Borissov presented the other priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU - the future of Europe and young people, security and stability in a strong and united Europe, the digital economy and the skills of the future.
