THERESA MAY: I EXPECT FURTHER WIDENING OF OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH BULGARIA DURING PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV’S TERM

11.05.2017

British Prime Minister Theresa May congratulated Prime Minister Boyko Borissov on the occasion of his appointment for a third term as leader of the executive. “The United Kingdom highly appreciates our close cooperation with Bulgaria in many fields – dealing with the external and internal threats to Europe, the protection of the international rule-based system and stimulating the development of free trade,” she notes in the congratulatory letter.

Theresa May adds that she expects with hope the opportunities for further widening of the partnership with Bulgaria during Borissov’s term as Prime Minister. She points out that there are a number of fields where work is already under way in close cooperation, but she sees room for even closer cooperation – for example in support of common interests in managing migration, guaranteeing border protection, stimulating judicial reform, strengthening law enforcement and the fight against trans-border crime.

“The United Kingdom is leaving the European Union, but we will aim for a deep and special partnership with a secure and prosperous EU. At the same time, I am convinced that the long-standing bilateral relations between the United Kingdom and Bulgaria will be to the maximum interest of our two countries, Europe and the world,” writes Theresa May to Prime Minister Borissov.
