A rescue operation is underway for some of the crew on board the Tzarevna bulk carrier, said Prime Minister Kiril Petkov at a briefing in the Council of Ministers. He reported that 14 Bulgarian citizens and one citizen of Ukraine who is a graduate of the Bulgarian Naval School are now outside the Port of Mariupol. The group is about to move to Donetsk and from there, to depart for Bulgaria. Some members of the crew – three Bulgarian and two Ukrainian citizens, including the ship captain – chose to remain on board the vessel.
Prime Minister Kiril Petkov commended all who were engaged in the coordination and organization of the crew’s rescue. The critical distance to quit the ship has been covered, the Prime Minister said, and added that the people are in safety.
