Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev: Joint effort is needed to guarantee sure digital space

Governments, businesses, the academia and civil society must work together so that digital technologies contribute to the maximum extent to promote sustainable development, to guarantee sure digital space for all and to bridge the digital divide. This was stated by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev in New York within the interactive dialog Towards a Common Digital Future.

 

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev noted that the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF2) is an example of how joint efforts can improve critical digital infrastructure. In addition, the Bulgaria-Greece-Serbia 5G corridor initiative demonstrates how such partnerships can improve connectivity and bridge digital divides. Dimitar Glavchev singled out the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology (INSAIT) with the University of Sofia; the INSAIT operates in Bulgaria in cooperation with Swiss universities. This additionally makes visible our commitment to technology innovation and attracts the most brilliant minds in the field of Artificial Intelligence, the Prime Minister said further.

 

Bulgaria’s Prime Minister gave special attention to issues of cybersecurity, digital literacy and protection of personal data. It is extremely important that we protect all people, especially children, against threats in the online environment, Mr. Glavchev pointed out. Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said further that the expansion of digital infrastructure, especially in underdeveloped areas, is essential for nondiscriminatory access to the digital economy, including to education, healthcare and business opportunities.
