06.06.2017

Europe needs you and your government, the Balkans need you, Bulgaria needs you. With these words the President of the Federal Republic of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier turned to Prime Minister Boyko Borissov during their meeting in Berlin. Steinmeier congratulated Prime Minister Borissov on his third term in office as leader of the executive in Bulgaria and wished him success in his responsible work in the next four years. The two agreed that it is of mutual interest to continue to develop and deepen the relations between Bulgaria and Germany.

“We highly appreciate the excellent and friendly relations with Germany,” said Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. According to him, the intensive bilateral political dialogue is a clear signal for the willingness on both sides to strengthen their partnership on issues of mutual interest. The Bulgarian Prime Minister added that our country will continue to rely on the German experience and valuable support in the priority areas for Bulgaria. He gave as example important issues, such as the preparation for the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU, border security and protection, investment and dual education.

Prime Minister Borissov thanked for the understanding and the support in solidarity that Bulgaria receives from Germany within the framework of the partnership in the EU and NATO. He underlined the efforts of our country for entering the waiting room for the Eurozone and for becoming part of Schengen. “I am convinced that the good relations between Bulgaria and Germany, in the spirit of the traditional friendship and shared European values, contribute to attaining the common goal – building up a strong, stable, prosperous and united Europe, which will live up to the expectations of the citizens and will address the challenges successfully,” added the Prime Minister.

President Steinmeier received the Bulgarian Prime Minister at the Bellevue Palace, which is one of the most famous buildings in Germany with its park as one of the most beautiful gardens. The Palace also hosts the first museum of modern German art. Since 1994 Bellevue is the first residence of the Federal President.
