Kalin Stoyanov - Minister of Interior

Born on 28 April 1981 in Burgas, Bulgaria.

2003: graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree from the MoI Academy.
2008: took a Master’s Degree in law from the Burgas Free University.

Specialized training courses on: counter-terrorism, combating illicit migration, trafficking in human beings, illegal trade in arms, counterfeiting and other crimes. Completion of courses for senior commanding officers, including attendance of the International Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA), Budapest, Hungary.

Professional career within the Ministry of Interior
2003: employment with the Economic Police Department of the MoI Regional Directorate, Burgas.

2009-2011: employment with the Territorial Unit for Combating Organized Crime, Burgas; member of the Regional Commission for Combating the Trafficking in Human Beings.

2011-2016: employment with the Special Operations Unit, Directorate General for Combating Organized Crime (DGCOC) under the Ministry of Interior. Between 2013 and 2015, the Unit was under the umbrella of the State Agency for National Security (SANS).

2016-2018: head of the Local Police in Primorsko under the MoI Regional Directorate, Burgas.

2018: head of department, DGCOC, MoI.

May 2021: Director DGCOC.

Multiple awards from the Minister of Interior, the Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Interior and the SANS Chair. Awardee of the international “40 under 40” of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and recipient of two team awards: from the United States Secret Service and Europol.

6 June 2023: appointed as Minister of Interior.
