Atanas Zafirov Zafirov was born in 1971. He graduated with a degree in “Bulgarian Language and History” from the University of Veliko Tarnovo “St. Cyril and St. Methodius”. He holds master’s degrees in “National Security” from the G. S. Rakovski Military Academy in Sofia and in “Finance” from the University of Veliko Tarnovo. He has additional qualifications in political science and political management, obtained from the New Bulgarian University and the Bulgarian School of Politics.
He has served as a Member of Parliament from the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) in nine parliamentary terms. He chaired the Committee on Defense in the 46th and 47th National Assemblies. In the 51st National Assembly, he is the co-chair of the Parliamentary Group “BSP – United Left”.
