Two French aircrafts join aerial firefighting on Bulgarian-Greek border

29.07.2024

“Two French aircrafts join the aerial firefighting operations on the Bulgarian-Greek border. I thank France for this help. This is European solidarity.” This statement was made by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev who together with the Minister of Interior Kalin Stoyanov visited the village of Petrovo because of the fire that already reached Bulgaria’s territory. The Prime Minister announced that the aircrafts are expected to land at Plovdiv Airport this afternoon and would join to assist the aerial firefighting operation tomorrow. “These aircrafts have a large volume to take water with one scooping movement so their contribution during these two days should be sufficient,” Dimitar Glavchev said further.

The Prime Minister added that a helicopter of the Border Police General Directorate would arrive on the scene to monitor the situation from high up in the air.

The Prime Minister thanked specially all firefighters for their commitment to the operations to cope with disasters in many locations of the country in recent months. Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev assured that all possible measures had been taken to extinguish the fire but reminded that the relief in the area is mountainous and the firefighting is extremely difficult.

In his answer to a reporter’s question, Dimitar Glavchev again expressed his hope that the National Assembly would elect a regular government, as this would be the best option for the state.
