INSAIT is a successful model for doing research work that finds enormous practical application. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at the event to mark the fourth anniversary of the foundation of the Institute for Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Technology – INSAIT. The Prime Minister described as encouraging the results of the work of the Institute that was founded in 2021 upon an initiative of the government with Prime Minister Boyko Borissov. INSAIT showed that the development of this sustainable model in partnership with the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich/ETH Zurich) and the Swiss Federal Technology Institute of Lausanne (EPFL École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne) is extremely successful as it produces science related to advanced computer technologies and the development of artificial intelligence, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov said further.
In the opinion of Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov, it is of utmost importance for Bulgaria to attract research workers and to put in place a research ecosystem that would enable talents from many countries to continue their research work and career development in Bulgaria. Today we were pleased to hear that the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), among others, is about to join this ecosystem, Rossen Jeliazkov stressed. The Prime Minister recalled that one of the six European artificial intelligence factories will be located in Bulgaria and this makes the country a flagship in Southeast Europe in the AI sector.
The Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs, Education and Research (EAER) of the Swiss Confederation, Guy Parmelin, congratulated the INSAIT on the results achieved and specifically highlighted the benefits that Bulgarian citizens reap from its work. Guy Parmelin also pointed out the importance: first, of the active government policy for the development of science and technology and second, of cooperation at international level.
The Rector of the Sofia University St. Kliment Ohridski, Prof. Georgi Valchev, likewise noted that the Institute has achieved a lot since its foundation. INSAIT has become a place where young people can make their dreams come true, become conversant with new technologies, work with leading scientists from around the world and make progress while they feel confident that they are at the forefront of these technologies, Prof. Valchev pointed out.
Prof. Dr. Joël Mesot, President of the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, for his part, likewise recognized the achievements of INSAIT and expressed his confidence in Europe’s vast potentials in the development of the AI sector.
