The Pact for the Future has materialized despite the attempt of Russia and several other countries to torpedo it by means of procedural tricks. This is what Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said as he spoke to media in New York where he attended the Summit of the Future. The forum is the key event within the General Assembly High-level Week 2024 for Heads of State and Government from all over the world. The Prime Minister noted that the attempt to insert an additional text about so-called sovereignty into the key document clashed with the overwhelming resistance of 143 countries and received the support of only seven countries.
Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev underscored, inter alia, the importance of the two annexes to the Pact for the Future – the Declaration on Future Generations and the Global Digital Compact. These annexes give special attention to providing opportunities for the well-being of young people and to harnessing the potential of digital technologies for the benefit of peace and development. It is of utmost importance to ensure good future for next generations based on peace and security, Mr. Glavchev pointed out. However, in the understanding of the Prime Minister it is important that as many countries as possible unite as at present peace and security are seriously threatened. This aspect of the situation has changed a lot, the Prime Minister said further.
Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev extended a greeting to the Bulgarian citizens to mark the Independence Day and conveyed a message of freedom, independence and unity. I believe that politicians should work towards that, the Prime Minister said further.
