Bulgaria is expected to join the OECD by the end of 2025

02.05.2024

It is for the first time that a concrete date is suggested for Bulgaria’s accession to the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), said Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev as he spoke to the media after his meeting with OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann. The discussion of Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev and Secretary-General Mathias Cormann indicated a time horizon for the country’s accession to the OECD – by the end of next year, 2025. A total of 31 reviews of the OECD Committees on Bulgaria have been approved; 26 reviews are on the to-do list.

Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev recalled that it had been a long time since Bulgaria expressed its wish to join the OECD. At the meeting today, the Prime Minister personally thanked OECD Secretary-General Mathias Cormann for the active dialog with Bulgaria during his term in office.

Asked about yesterday’s withdrawal of the cabinet’s decision to open a private hospital, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev explained that the reason for the withdrawal was the public tension that it provoked and that he complied with.
