The Government strictly honors its pledge regarding the accession to the single European currency so that the transition is smooth. This was stated by Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov at his meeting with the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund Kristalina Georgieva. The meeting was part of the agenda of the high-level conference taking place today in the Boyana Residence.
Rossen Jeliazkov and Kristalina Georgieva agreed that the adoption of the Euro is a historic step for Bulgaria. The IMF Managing Director congratulated Bulgaria on what had been achieved and pointed out that it is crucial that the adoption of the Euro be combined with the pursuit of rational policies.
During the discussion, apart from the successful adoption of the Euro, Prime Minister Rossen Jeliazkov highlighted the cabinet’s consistent effort for economic growth and financial discipline. Improvement of competitiveness is likewise a focus of the cabinet’s policies, both at the national level and in the European context, the Prime Minister said further.
