Bulgaria will contribute to the establishment of two harmonized military mobility corridors that will further facilitate faster movement within NATO in the south-north direction. This was stated by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev for media in Washington where he attends the NATO Summit.
The letters of intent signed set the establishment of harmonized military mobility corridors: one between their nations – Italy, Albania, the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria – in the framework of Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII; and the other is to connect Greece, Bulgaria and Romania. These corridors will help increase NATO’s deterrence and defense capabilities, promote country-to-country cooperation in the field of military mobility, and strengthen transport connectivity between and among the countries as a major factor to promote the economic development of the region and to boost cooperation between NATO and the EU. Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev pointed out the desire as expressed by Türkiye to join, however, subject to a modality other than that as the corridors are to get European funding, among other sources, but Türkiye is not a member of the EU.
Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev emphasized the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Bulgaria and Romania on the Headquarters of the Regional Special Operations Component Command (MoU on HQR-SOCC). The Headquarters will be engaged in the planning, command and direction of the Special Operations Forces of the Alliance for the Black Sea region. The establishment of the Headquarters will strengthen the deterrence and defense potential of NATO’s Southeast Flank.
Ukraine’s path to NATO is irreversible, Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev said further. He noted that the matter is to be discussed today at the Washington Summit within the framework of the meeting of the heads of state and government in the NATO-Ukraine Council (NUC) format.
As he answered a journalist’s question concerning a domestic issue, the Prime Minister reiterated his viewpoint that it is important for Bulgaria to have a regular government.
