19.10.2018

Bulgaria is working actively to enhance connectivity on the Balkans. This was said by Prime Minister Boyko Borissov at the 12th Asia-Europe Summit (ASEM) in Brussels, hosted by the EU this year. Borissov reminded that connectivity was one of the key priorities of the Bulgarian Presidency of the EU Council in the first half of this year and pointed out that one of the most important achievements of our country was the return of the focus of attention to the European perspective for the Western Balkans. "The Sofia Declaration adopted at the EU-Western Balkans Summit highlighted the importance of cooperation in all areas of connectivity - transport, energy, digital, economic, and people-to-people", added the Bulgarian Prime Minister.

"The new comprehensive EU strategy on Europe-Asia connectivity creates an excellent basis for interaction with our Asian partners," said Prime Minister Borissov. He emphasized that in recent years Bulgaria has significantly strengthened its engagement within the ASEM framework, thereby participating in the implementation of initiatives to enhance the cooperation between Europe and Asia in key areas, such as employment, finance, sustainable development, human rights, culture, education, etc. "Only in the first half of this year Bulgaria hosted two ASEM ministerial meetings on culture and finance," said Borissov. He added that our country values the ASEM forum because it helps to promote cooperation and mutual trust between the two continents.
