
Education:
Rumen Radev is a top graduate of the Bulgarian Air Force Academy in Dolna Mitropolia. In 1992 he graduated from the Airforce Squadron Officer School, Maxwell AFB, USA. From 1994 to 1996 he attended the Command and Staff College of the G. S. Rakovski National Defense Academy, Bulgaria and graduated as the top graduate. In 2003 he completed with honors the Air War College, Maxwell AFB, USA, and took a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies. His name is written on the Glory Alley of the Air War College. Rumen Radev is a First-Class pilot with more than 1400 flight hours. He is a MiG-29 demo-pilot and was promoted a Major General. In 2014-2016 he was the Commander of the Air Force of the Republic of Bulgaria.

In 2000 Rumen Radev took a Doctor’s Degree in Military Science in the field of the enhancement of aircrew tactical training and of air combat simulations.
Experience:
From 2017 to 2026 Rumen Radev was the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. On 19 January 2026 in an address to the Bulgarian nation, he announced his resignation as head of state. By a decision of the Constitutional Court his powers were terminated as of 23 January 2026.
Marital status: married with two children
