THE UNITED STATES TOOK OUT BULGARIA FROM THE "BLACKLIST" OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS

01.05.2018

Bulgaria has been taken out of the so-called "blacklist" for the protection of intellectual property in the United States. The US Commercial Office (USTR) has announced the results of its Annual Review under Section 301 of the US Commercial Code of State for Intellectual Property Rights Protection. As a result of the serious efforts made on the Bulgarian side, Bulgaria was removed from the Watch List on which it has been for five consecutive years.

The removal of Bulgaria from the so-called blacklist is an appraisal for the real progress of our country in the field of intellectual property and is the result of the actions taken by the ministries of interior, economy and culture, the Customs Agency, the Prosecutor General's Office, and other institutions.

The decision is a positive sign for foreign investors, and especially for the US high-tech business, for which the protection of intellectual property is a prerequisite for presence in every market. The Bulgarian side will continue its efforts to combat intellectual property rights violations in all forms - from online piracy of entertainment content and unlicensed software to forged products and trademarks.
