Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Lee Nak-yeon at the Government Complex in Seoul. In the course of the conversation, Prime Minister Borissov noted that the visit of his Korean counterpart Lee Nak-yeon in October 2017 gave a strong stimulus to the bilateral relations. The Prime Minister expressed certainty that the current visit will give the opportunity to review what has been achieved so far and to outline new concrete areas of cooperation.
The Republic of Korea is our priority economic partner in Asia and our efforts are focused on attracting Korean investments and balancing trade, said Prime Minister Borissov. According to him there is a mutual interest for the partnership between Bulgaria and the Republic of Korea to be strategic, taking into account the activation and intensifying of the relations between the Asian country and the European Union.
We believe that the Government of the Republic of Korea will be our partner in the efforts to achieve real results in areas with great potential for cooperation, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov said. According to him, high technologies, mechanical engineering, transport, and education are prospective areas of cooperation. In the area of information and communication technologies, companies from both countries could also cooperate, including in research and development. Prime Minister Borissov expressed his hope that Korean companies would follow the experience of other leading countries and open their own development centers in Bulgaria.
Of mutual interest are also the opportunities that Korean construction companies have for investing in road infrastructure in Bulgaria. Prime Minister Borissov said that they could be included in a number of infrastructure sites in Bulgaria through the mechanism of public-private partnership. The Bulgarian Prime Minister also put an emphasis on the interest of our country to attract more tourists from the Republic of Korea. Borissov noted the importance of the Bulgarian-Korean Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation, which is an important tool for interaction between the two states.
