PRIME MINISTER BORISSOV WELCOMED THE EC INITIATIVE TO CREATE A DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CENTER

Bulgaria and 15 other EU countries are setting up an enterprise to develop a European supercomputer. This would be a revolution in medicine, security, and transport, European Commissioner for Digital Economy and the Digital Society Maria Gabriel said at a forum in Sofia, organized by the Ministry of Education and Science and the European Commission. She also announced that in May she will propose an ambitious digital strategy, including artificial intelligence and cyber security.

 

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov welcomed the Commission's initiative to set up a digital technology center and expressed satisfaction with Bulgaria's participation in the implementation of the plans for the creation of European supercomputers.

 

Within this highly competitive environment, it is necessary to utilize the 1 billion euro that the European Commission has allocated for the preparation of supercomputers, the Prime Minister said at the international conference "Building the digital future of Europe: high performance calculations for scientific and industrial applications on an extraordinary scale" . He added that with this fund and the powerful processor systems, with countries like Germany and France at the forefront, European countries can unite and develop their digital societies more rapidly. The Prime Minister pointed out that the development of super-technologies will contribute to a faster digitization in Bulgaria and on the Balkans, and will constitute a step towards providing protection against cyber attacks and a powerful stimulus for the development of scientific research in a number of areas.
