BULGARIA TO HOST A BUSINESS SUMMIT WITH THE JAPAN EXTERNAL TRADE ORGANIZATION

Bulgaria will host a business summit with The Japan External Trade Organization /JETRO/. The decision was approved at the meeting between Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister Mr Tomislav Donchev and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Mr Hiroshige Seko.

 

Mr Donchev’s working visit to Japan follows the discussion between the two countries’ governments during Japanese Prime Minister Mr Shinzo Abe’s historic visit to Bulgaria. The purpose of the current set of talks is to identify specific steps towards encouraging investments and trade between the two countries, with special attention on technology, tourism, increasing and diversifying Bulgarian exports, exchange of experience and trainings. Minister Seko highlighted the interest by Japanese companies for cooperation with countries from Central and Eastern Europe, including investment in production capacity on European soil. JETRO will conduct a research mission in Bulgaria during May and June 2018. Executives of Japanese companies with interest for investments in the country will be included in the mission.

 

Deputy Prime Minister Donchev also met Japan’s Foreign Minister, Mr Taro Kono, and assured that during its presidency of the Council of the European Union, Bulgaria will work towards the enactment of the Free Trade Agreement between the EU and Japan, which will stimulate bilateral economic relations as well.

 

During a business forum with representatives of world-famous Japanese corporations in Tokyo, Mr Donchev highlighted the excellent investment climate in Bulgaria, and access to the European Single Market as prerequisites for a more substantial presence by Japanese businesses on the Bulgarian market and for the increase of Bulgarian exports to Japan.

 

Furthermore, Mr Donchev held talks with Deputy Secretary General of the Japanese government Mr Kotaro Nogami, President of leading Japanese corporation Mr Shinji Yazaki, Chancellor of Tokai University Mr Kiyoshi Yamada, JETRO President  Mr Yasushi Akahoshi, as well as representatives of the Bulgarian community in Tokyo.
